How to Choose a Walking Pad: A Buyer's Guide
Share
Walking pads have gone from novelty to genuinely useful, and the range is now wide enough to be confusing. Here is how to pick one.
Decide whether you will walk, or walk and run
A pure walking pad typically tops out around 6 km/h and has no handrail. That is fine for walking at a desk or in front of the television. If you also want to jog, look for a 2-in-1 model with a folding handrail and a higher top speed.
Measure before you buy
Check the folded dimensions as well as the open footprint. The whole point of a walking pad is that it disappears between uses, so confirm it will actually fit under your sofa, bed or desk. Also check belt width and length: a longer belt is more comfortable at faster speeds.
Think about the motor and noise
Brushless motors generally run more quietly than brushed motors, which matters if you plan to walk during calls or while others are in the room.
Weight capacity and build
Check the maximum user weight and the weight of the unit itself. Heavier machines are usually more stable, but harder to move each day, so balance the two.
Controls and apps
Some pads are remote-only, some add an app for tracking steps, speed and calories, and some offer foot-sensing speed control that adjusts as you move up and down the belt. Decide which you will genuinely use.
