Single-dosing grinders tend to be fairly uncomplicated, and the Twist SD54 is no exception to that rule. Weighed beans go in the top, and pillowy, clump-free grounds come out the chute—all you do is press a button. But the Twist SD54 brings a few tricks to the party that even much more expensive single-dosers often lack: a worm-gear grind-adjustment mechanism and air-cooled motor are just the tip of the iceberg.

Despite being one of the more affordable commercial-grade grinders available, the Profitec Twist SD54 punches well above its price point. With a 235 Watt motor that spins at 1400 RPM and a set of 54mm flat, steel burrs, the Twist SD delivers an 18g dose of espresso in just over 13 seconds. And, thanks to the worm-gear grind adjustment mechanism, the Twist is extraordinarily precise. In fact, when we tested this grinder, it took a 98° rotation of the adjustment knob to move the burrs 1 micron. Compared to a standard grind adjustment knob that makes the same shift with a mere 2° rotation, the Twist is as much as 50 times more precise.

The Twist SD54 tilts forward at a slight angle. This, along with the silicone bellows, helps facilitate low-retention grinding, so you can be quite confident that what you put in this grinder is going to come out the other end.
