What Changed in DF64 Gen 2.7?

The DF64 Gen 2 has received several practical updates since its original release. The core grinder, 64mm burr platform, stepless adjustment and 250-watt motor remain the same.

Low Retention

The Turin DF64 Gen 2 is a low retention grinder.

Low retention in a coffee grinder refers to the ability of the grinder to minimize the amount of ground coffee that remains trapped or stuck within the grinding chamber, chute, or other internal components after the grinding process is complete. Retention can lead to stale coffee grounds mixing with freshly ground coffee, resulting in inconsistent flavor profiles and reduced overall brewing quality. With traditional grinders this retained coffee either ends up in the next day’s shot, or users have to purge this amount and discard for optimal flavor. With single dosing and the use of bellows, the amount that is retained in Turin DF64 is usually a percentage of a gram.

Choose the DF54 if you want a compact and affordable single-dose grinder and do not expect to experiment extensively with aftermarket burrs.

Is the DF64 Gen 2.7 good for espresso?

Yes. The DF64 Gen 2.7 is an excellent espresso grinder. Its stepless adjustment allows very small grind-size changes, while its 64mm flat burrs produce consistent grounds for dialing in espresso. Different burr options also allow users to tailor the grinder toward greater body, balance or clarity.

Can the DF64 Gen 2.7 also grind for pour-over?

Yes. Its wide adjustment range allows it to grind for espresso, pour-over, drip coffee, AeroPress, French press and other brewing methods. The stock Turin stainless-steel burrs are a versatile choice for people who regularly switch between espresso and filter coffee.

How much coffee does the DF64 Gen 2.7 retain?

The DF64 Gen 2.7 is designed for very low retention. The bellows help clear coffee from the grinding chamber and chute after grinding. The exact amount retained varies with the coffee, grind setting and user workflow, but it is generally only a small fraction of a gram when the bellows are used correctly.

Does the DF64 Gen 2.7 require RDT?

RDT is generally not required. The built-in plasma generator reduces static and helps keep grounds from clinging to the chute and dosing cup. Extremely dry coffee or certain roast levels may still produce some static, so users can apply a very light mist if needed. Avoid adding excessive moisture.

Is the DF64 Gen 2.7 noisy?

The DF64 Gen 2.7 has a powerful 250-watt AC motor and is not designed to be silent. Its sound is noticeable, particularly when grinding lighter-roasted coffee, but the grinder processes a typical dose quickly. Buyers who place a high priority on lower noise or adjustable motor speed may prefer the DF64V.

Can SSP burrs be installed?

Yes. The grinder accepts compatible 64mm SSP burrs, including High Uniformity and Multipurpose burrs. SSP burrs ordered with the grinder are shipped separately and are not installed before shipping.

Does Espresso Outlet align the burrs?

Espresso Outlet does not perform custom burr alignment as part of the standard grinder purchase. The grinder arrives with its stock burrs factory-installed. Most customers can use it normally without performing an alignment procedure.

What comes in the box?

The latest DF64 Gen 2.7 package includes the grinder, installed Turin 64mm burrs selected with the order, bellows and lid, black dosing cup, silicone cup-support wedge, metal grind-setting indicator and cleaning brush. SSP burrs, when purchased, are packaged separately and are not installed.

Product accessories occasionally change during manufacturing. The current product description and photographs should be used to confirm the package contents at the time of purchase.

What changed in version 2.7?

Version 2.7 introduced an updated anti-popcorn device with a convex blocker. Earlier versions used a flat blocker that could allow a few coffee beans to remain on top instead of feeding smoothly into the grinding chamber. The core 64mm burr platform, stepless adjustment and 250-watt motor remain unchanged.

Is this the 120V US version?

Yes. This product page is for the 110–120V version designed for use in the United States. It has the correct plug and electrical frequency for standard US household outlets. The international 220V model is sold separately and should not be used with a standard US outlet.

Stepless Adjustment

The Turin DF64 Gen 2 is a stepless adjustment grinder with an infinite number of settings between the highest and lowest settings on the grinder. This allows the user to fine tune the grind size to precisely the best grind size for each given coffee. The adjustment dial has labels for different types of coffees to make it easier to find the correct grind size, but those are for reference only and the grind size for every coffee bean can be fine tuned to both the individual bean attributes as well as the brew method.

When you compare the Turin DF64 Gen 2 to other grinders in it’s price range it is very difficult to find anything that has as good build quality, as low retention, as sturdily built and that provides as high quality grinds as the Turin DF64 Gen 2. Even when compared with much higher priced grinders that are $1000 or more, it competes very well in the grind quality category. It really does punch a few notches above it’s price point. Modification Friendly

There are numerous 3D printed and other modifications out there that people have made for the DF64. We sell two of those, the dial indicator (makes it easier to see the grind size you are on) and the tilted cup holder (brings the cup closer to the grounds chute to prevent coffee grounds from falling out of the cup).

THE MANUFACTURER RECENTLY CHANGED THE DF64. THE LATEST VERSION OF THE DF64 GEN 2 is v2.7 AND HAS A NEW ANTI-POPCORN DEVICE DESIGN WHERE THE BLOCKER HAS A CONVEX DESIGN. PREVIOUS VERSIONS ARE FLAT. ANY GRINDERS ORDERED OR RECEIVED AFTER JULY 2026 ARE v2.7.

We do not install SSP burrs if ordered with the grinder. Grinder will come with stainless steel burrs and SSP burrs will be included separately.
