Turin DF64V Gen 3 Variable-Speed Single-Dose Grinder
The Turin DF64V Gen 3 is a compact variable-speed coffee grinder built around 64mm flat burrs and a high-torque brushless DC motor. Its adjustable RPM control allows users to experiment with grinding speed while its stepless adjustment provides the precision required for espresso and the range needed for pour-over, drip coffee, AeroPress and other filter methods.
Gen 3 combines the DF64V’s angled low-retention design with a stronger motor, a more efficient internal grinding chamber and an improved chute. A plasma ion generator helps reduce static, while the bellows, removable magnetic chute and slow-feeder system support a clean and repeatable single-dose workflow.
This product is the 100–120V US version and includes a one-year Espresso Outlet warranty.

Why Choose the DF64V Gen 3?

Variable-speed grinding

The front-mounted RPM control lets users change burr speed for different coffees, burr sets and brewing methods. RPM is another variable to explore after grind size, dose and recipe are under control. It can affect bean feeding, grinding time, fines production and the resulting flavor presentation.

High-torque brushless DC motor

The Gen 3 motor is designed to provide greater strength while maintaining the compact DF64V format. The brushless design operates differently from the fixed-speed AC motors used in the DF54 and DF64 Gen 2.7 and allows the grinder’s RPM to be adjusted.

Extensive 64mm burr compatibility

The 64mm platform supports the stock Turin Red Titanium espresso burrs and many compatible aftermarket sets. Owners can configure the grinder for traditional espresso, lighter-roast espresso, filter clarity or a balance of body, sweetness and separation.

Plasma anti-static system

An ion generator in the exit path helps reduce static electricity and grounds clinging. Performance depends on humidity, coffee and cleanliness, so the chute and ion-generator probes should be inspected and cleaned periodically.

Low-retention angled workflow

The angled grinding chamber, short grounds path, removable chute and bellows help minimize retained coffee. Retention varies with burrs, grind setting, roast level, static and technique, so the DF64V should be described as low retention rather than zero retention.

Removable chute and slow feeder

The magnetic chute can be removed for inspection and dry cleaning. The slow-feeder device controls how beans enter the burrs, helping create a more consistent feed rate while reducing popcorning.

Available Colors and Package Contents

The DF64V Gen 3 is offered in black, silver and dark grey. Current availability varies by color.
The current package includes:
  • Turin DF64V Gen 3 grinder
  • Factory-installed 64mm Turin Red Titanium espresso burrs

Read the DF64V Gen 1 vs. Gen 2 article for additional detail about the plasma generator and slow-feeder changes.

Which DF64V Burrs Should I Choose?

Burr Best suited for Cup profile
Turin Red Titanium Espresso and general use Balanced espresso profile with body and sweetness
SSP High Uniformity Espresso Greater body and intensity
SSP Multipurpose Light-roast espresso and filter coffee Higher clarity and flavor separation
SSP Cast Lab Sweet Espresso and filter coffee Balanced sweetness, body and clarity

Turin Red Titanium burrs

The stock coated burrs are the most economical choice and provide a versatile espresso-oriented profile. They arrive installed in the grinder.

SSP High Uniformity burrs

SSP High Uniformity burrs are intended primarily for espresso and are suited to users seeking greater intensity and body.

SSP Multipurpose burrs

SSP Multipurpose burrs emphasize clarity and separation, especially with lighter roasts and filter coffee.

SSP Cast Lab Sweet burrs

SSP Cast Lab Sweet burrs provide a middle ground between espresso body and multipurpose clarity.

DF64V vs. DF64 Gen 2.7 vs. DF83V

The DF64V, DF64 Gen 2.7 and DF83V are all stepless flat-burr single-dose grinders. The main differences are burr size, motor type, variable-speed control, physical size and price.
Feature DF64 Gen 2.7 DF64V Gen 3 DF83V
Burr size 64mm 64mm 83mm
Motor 250W AC 300W brushless DC High-power brushless DC
Speed control Fixed speed Variable speed Variable speed
Plasma anti-static system Yes Yes Yes
Best for Versatility and value Compact variable-speed 64mm grinding Users seeking an 83mm variable-speed platform
Primary consideration No RPM control Higher price than the fixed-speed DF64 Larger footprint and higher price

Which grinder should you choose?

Choose the DF64 Gen 2.7 if you want the most economical path to a versatile 64mm grinder and do not need adjustable RPM.
Choose the DF64V Gen 3 if you want a compact 64mm grinder with a brushless motor and variable-speed control.
Choose the DF83V if you specifically want a larger 83mm burr platform and accept the increased size and cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DF64V Gen 3 good for espresso?

Yes. Its stepless adjustment, 64mm flat burrs and variable-speed motor provide precise control for dialing in espresso. The stock Red Titanium burrs are espresso-oriented, while compatible SSP options can further change the cup profile.

Can the DF64V grind for pour-over?

Yes. Its grind range covers pour-over and other filter methods. Burr choice matters: the stock burrs are versatile, while SSP Multipurpose burrs are better suited to users prioritizing lighter-roast clarity and filter coffee.

What does changing the RPM do?

RPM changes how quickly the burrs rotate and can influence feeding, grinding time, fines and flavor. There is no universally correct RPM. Start with a moderate setting, dial in by grind size, and then experiment with speed while keeping the dose and recipe constant.

What RPM should I use for espresso?

A middle-to-higher RPM setting is a practical starting point for espresso, particularly with dense light-roast coffee. Lower speeds can be explored after the grinder is dialed in. Hot-start the grinder and avoid loading dense beans into stationary burrs at a fine setting.

Should I hot-start the DF64V?

Yes, especially for fine espresso grinding and light roasts. Start the motor before adding beans to reduce the chance of stalling and to keep the feeding workflow consistent.

How much coffee does the DF64V retain?

The DF64V is designed for low retention. The exact amount varies with burrs, grind setting, coffee, static, chute cleanliness and bellows technique. No grinder eliminates every trace of retained coffee under all conditions.

Does the DF64V require RDT?

RDT is generally unnecessary under normal conditions because the plasma generator reduces static. Extremely dry coffee or low humidity may still benefit from a very light mist. Avoid excessive moisture.

How do I clean the plasma generator?

Unplug the grinder, remove the magnetic chute and gently clean dry coffee residue from the chute and ion-generator probes with a brush. Do not introduce water into the chute, grinding chamber, motor or electrical components.

Can SSP burrs be installed?

Yes. The DF64V accepts many compatible 64mm SSP burrs, including High Uniformity, Multipurpose and Cast Lab Sweet. Confirm compatibility for any other burr set before installation.

Does Espresso Outlet install or align SSP burrs?

No. SSP burrs purchased with the grinder are packaged separately. Espresso Outlet does not install or custom-align them as part of the standard purchase.

Does the DF64V need burr alignment?

Most customers should use the grinder normally before considering alignment. Factory alignment is generally sufficient for standard home use. Recheck grind settings and alignment after installing a different burr set.

Is the DF64V quieter than the DF64 Gen 2?

The brushless DC motor has a different sound character from the DF64 Gen 2.7’s AC motor and is often perceived as smoother. Actual sound depends on RPM, burrs, grind setting and coffee.

Can the DF64V grind directly into a portafilter?

The grinder can be positioned to grind into a compatible portafilter, but the included dosing cup generally provides the cleanest and most repeatable workflow.

How often should the DF64V be cleaned?

Inspect and clean the chute when static, clumping or retention increases. The grinding chamber should be cleaned periodically based on use and coffee oil. Always unplug the grinder and use dry cleaning methods.

What changed in DF64V Gen 3?

Gen 3 adds a stronger motor and revised internal chamber and chute. It retains the plasma generator, slow-feeder system, stepless adjustment and variable-speed 64mm platform introduced and refined in earlier generations.

What comes in the box?

The current package includes the grinder with factory-installed Red Titanium burrs, bellows and wooden lid, removable slow feeder, current dosing cup with wooden base and a US power cord.

Is this the 120V US version?

Yes. This listing is for the 100–120V US model. International customers can purchase the 220V DF64V Gen 3 from Turin Grinders.

DF64V vs. DF64 Gen 2.7: which should I buy?

Choose the DF64V when adjustable RPM, a brushless motor and a narrower body justify the higher price. Choose the DF64 Gen 2.7 when value and the same broad 64mm burr ecosystem are the priorities.
